A trilogy of portrait films

In 2008-2010 Katrin Ottarsdóttir made a series of 3 film portraits of Faroese artists.

Den første film i rækken var No One Can Achieve Perfection - on the sculpturer Hans Pauli Olsen, then A Line A Day Must Be Enough! - on the poet, painter and performance artist Tóroddur Poulsen, and finally Traces Grow Out of Words - on the writer and provocateur Jóanes Nielsen.

About the three portrait films, Katrin says:

"I want to create films, which try to get to the person behind the artist and the art. I want to see - for better or worse - if it is possible to get to the creative impulse itself.

The films must be a journey into a territory unknown by me and the audience. I myself don't know much about what drives e.g. sculpturers in their works. But I am curious - and that is what drives me.

I imagine a series of films, which dare ask just those curious and "silly" questions that people often don't dare ask of artists.

Roughness and spontaneity in form and content are main traits of the films."

All three films are one-(wo)man, one camera productions, which means that Katrin herself has both directed, shot and edited the films.
