A trilogy of portrait films
Katrin Ottarsdóttir is currently working on a film portrait of the Faroese writer, provocateur and commentator Jóanes Nielsen. The film is the third and final of a series of film portraits of Faroese artists.
The first of the films No One Can Achieve Perfection - on the sculpturer Hans Pauli Olsen - premiered in January 2008. The second film - A Line A Day Must Be Enough! - on the poet, painter and performance artist Tóroddur Poulsen, premiered in September 2008.
Katrin on her aim in her work with the three portrait films:
"I want to create films, which try to get to the person behind the artist and the art. I want to see - for better or worse - if it is possible to get to the creative impulse itself. The films must be a journey into a territory unknown by me and the audience. I myself don't know much about what drives e.g. sculpturers in their works. But I am curious - and that is what drives me. I imagine a series of films, which dare ask just those curious and "silly" questions that people often don't dare ask of artists. Roughness and spontaneity in form and content are main traits of the films."
All three films are one-(wo)man, one camera productions, which means that Katrin both directs, shoots and edits the films.
